Katlehong North churchgoers urged to safeguard their vehicles, as police identify worrying crime trend.

Katlehong North SAPS has noted a worrying crime trend in their precinct, where vehicles are being stolen while their owners are in church.

The thefts have been reported at a number of different churches in the area, with various vehicles being targeted.

Police are urging churchgoers and the community as a whole to be more vigilant and aware of their surroundings when visiting local churches to avoid becoming a victim.

The police offer the community three simple safety tips to help safeguard their vehicles:

• Always lock your vehicle’s doors and ensure all the windows are closed.

• Don’t leave your vehicle unlocked, even if you think you will only be away for a moment.

• Park your vehicle in a well-lit area where it can be seen.

Police further urged local churches to consider employing security guards who can patrol the parking areas while community members attend services.
