Business robbery case opened after toy store was robbed

There has been a business burglary at Zamokwakhe Toyland, the toy shop at the Lesedi Shopping Centre in Vosloorus.

Mr M Mashinini, the owner of the shop, closed and locked his business as usual at about 7.30pm on February 15. When he opened the shop the following day at about 7.45am, he discovered a break-in had occurred and an undisclosed amount of cash money was stolen from the tills.

Communications officer at Vosloorus SAPS Capt Piet Rossouw said a case of business burglary was opened at the police station on February 16 in the morning, and the police started their investigation immediately after the case was registered.

“Upon the police’s investigation, an ex-employee of the complainant, who is currently working as a security guard at the shopping centre, was arrested. He was on duty during the admission of the crime,” Rossouw said.

Mashinini revealed to Kathorus MAIL that there have been numerous break-ins at the shop the past few months and that he believes the same person who was arrested by the police is behind all of them.

“I do not want to say more on this matter,” Mashinini said.

Rossouw advised businesses to hire legit security companies registered with the Securities Industry Regulatory Authority (SIRA).

The suspect appeared in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court on February 18.
