Precautionary deferral measures have been put in place to ensure continued safety of blood and blood products.

As the cornerstone of healthcare in South Africa, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) takes the health of citizens very seriously.

The safety of the South African community is their priority.

During this challenging time, we are all called to unite in the drive to keep our nation healthy.

Precautionary deferral measures have been put in place to ensure continued safety of blood and blood products.

The following people are affected:

• People who have travelled to affected countries outside of South Africa will be deferred for 21 days.

• People with confirmed cases of Coronavirus infection will be deferred for 28 days from the date of complete clearance of symptoms.

• People who have been in close contact with confirmed or suspected Coronavirus cases will be deferred for 21 days from the last date of contact.

By working together and exercising heightened awareness, we can prevent the unmanageable spread of this disease.
