Man arrested on multiple charges in Katlehong North

The Katlehong North police apprehended man on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property and business burglary.

While on patrol in the early hours of Wednesday morning officers from the Katlehong North Police Station noticed a white Toyota Quantum parked inside the City Mercy Church premises.

The officers were suspicious as the church’s gate was wide open and no other vehicles were around.

“After a brief search of the premises police found a 32-year-old man inside the church,” explained Capt Lesetja Mathobela, communications officer for the Katlehong North police.

“He was unable to explain why he was at the church.

“The officers then searched the vehicle and found a music system, speakers, a keyboard, camera, hammer and crowbar inside.”

The suspect was arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property and business burglary.

He was taken to the Katlehong North Police Station pending his appearance in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

“We have recorded a number of business burglaries within the Katlehong North precinct recently,” said Mathobela.

Katlehong North SAPS station commander Col Raymond Buthelezi thanked the officers responsible for the arrest.

“We are committed in making sure our precinct is safe from criminals and will deploy more police officers and increase police visibility within the area,” Buthelezi said.
