Ekurhuleni champion Lindokuhle Davane wins relay silver
Marais Viljoen High School learner Lindokuhle Davane delivered a strong performance at the OR Tambo Soncini Games, helping Team Ekurhuleni secure the overall title.
The 2026 OR Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games concluded after two thrilling days of competition from October 24 to 25.
The competition took place at Ruimsig Stadium, Trezona Park and Hoërskool Florida.
Bringing together talented young athletes aged 14 to 17 to compete in athletics, football and rugby sevens, the event delivered exciting action, teamwork and memorable moments.
Among the standout performers was Central Gauteng athlete Lindokuhle Davane, who showcased his endurance and versatility while competing under the Ekurhuleni colours.
The Grade Eight learner from Marais Viljoen High School earned his place on the Ekurhuleni team after recording strong qualifying times at Germiston Stadium.

Facing a demanding schedule, Davane competed in multiple track events. In the 800m, he finished sixth in his heat to qualify for the final, although he was unable to compete in the final race.
He bounced back in the 400m, finishing second in his qualifying heat before placing fourth in the final. While his 4x100m relay team finished outside the top three, Davane capped his performances with a silver medal in the Swedish relay.
His performances contributed to Team Ekurhuleni’s overall victory, with the team crowned the 2026 OR Tambo Soncini Games champions.
Some athletes travelled from Reggio Emilia, Italy, to compete in the international event.
Davane’s achievements come during a period of transition as he adjusts to high school life. Moving to a new school presented challenges, particularly with transport and balancing his routine. These difficulties affected his training schedule and limited his participation in school sports.

“However, I have maintained steady academic progress, improving my marks each term and training hours,” said Davane.
“In primary school, I competed across numerous disciplines and excelled academically, though I am yet to reach provincial or national competitions,” he added.
“Now I am finding my footing,” he said.
The promising young athlete has set his sights on the future, with his biggest dream being to train relentlessly and work towards winning gold at the national championships in the 2027 season.
The victory was a well-deserved reward for the dedication shown by the athletes, coaches, parents and supporters who filled the venues.
