rules and procedures to follow for a funeral

As the lockdown continues, there is growing concern among Kathorus residents about what are they expected to do in the event of a death in the family.

Here are steps families must follow if there’s funeral in your family.

– Family applies for a permit to have a funeral service.- Requests permission that service be held at home and church

– times specified.

– Church to be inspected by authorities for compliance.

– Family must submit an affidavit.

– The family then invites attendees (mourners).

– Your pastor must apply for a permit to conduct the funeral.

– The pastor must also obtain an affidavit confirming he’s the appointment by family.

– Pastor explains regulation to the family (such as no touching of the corpse; sanitizing of hands, coffin, etc).

– Undertaker obtains affidavit clearly stating the route the funeral will take.

– At church, the pastor explains the procedure before mourners enter.

– An attendance register must be completed.

– Strictly only 50 people are allowed to attend a burial.

– The service must not take more than one hour.

– Sanitize everybody.

– No sharing of mics (dedicated mics for singers and MC).

– Mic used for speeches be sanitized after every speaker.

– Social distancing is a must.

– Pallbearers to wear gloves.

– After service use designated route to cemetery and no deviation.

– At the cemetery gate, authorities inspect all documents and take originals (make sure you have photocopies of everything, including the register).

– Mourners and cars are physically counted.

– Each car must carry half the usual load.

– Any person beyond the required 50 cannot be allowed access.

– After short graveside service you don’t fill up the grave, you leave it the municipality workers will do the rest. Three family members stay behind to witness the closure of the grave.

– The rest of the mourners should go back to the house, collect take aways and leave.

– No hanging around; No after service prayer for the family.

– All related permits expire.- No night vigil is allowed.
