Man nearly hijacked on Swartkoppies Road

Thys Mieny (60) from Brackendowns was nearly hijacked on his bicycle while cycling alone along Swartkoppies Road going to Eikenhof at about 6.45 am on July 19.

He said a white panel van tried to push him off the road. “The second time they tried to push me off the road, I made a U-turn then suddenly three guys jumped out of the van and tried to catch me on foot.

“However, the Docs (our cycling group) taught me how to ride a bike fast and they couldn’t keep up. Thank you Docs,” explained Thys.

He said he has been cycling for the past three years and he is fit, thanks to the Docs.

He mentioned that it was the first time that this has happened to him and that cyclists should be vigilant.
