Epworth in pressing need for food

Supporters can also buy grocery items from the home's wish list.

Epworth Children’s Home in Lambton, Germiston, is counting on the community to make a difference, in celebration of Mandela Month.

Roberta Ingrato, public relations manager of the home, said their most pressing need is food.

“With Covid-19 not allowing us to openly give, we ask that the community shows it’s love by donating a meal. Sadly, we are not allowing any members of the public at the village due to the pandemic.”

Ingrato said winter is much colder this year, not in degrees but in missed connections.

“This July I do not have the pleasure of sitting at my desk hearing the children laughing outside or seeing their faces as they create memories with the community members.”

She said Epworth provides three meals and snacks for up to 100 beneficiaries at a time.

“We are required to provide balanced nutritional meals to ensure our vulnerable children are looked after in all aspects but most important physically.

“We are proud to have partners such as the hospitals who are happy with our children’s progress due to the care given, which is not done in isolation but with the love and commitment of individuals such as the community.”

Unsure of what the next few months will bring, Ingrato said they kicked off a campaign to raise awareness and funds which will be used to provide meals and services.

“If community members would like to donate a meal or more for a child, they can donate anything from R25. They can also challenge family and friends to sponsor one meal for a child.

“Another way is to buy vouchers from any other food outlets,” said Ingrato.

Supporters can also buy grocery items from the home’s wish list.
