One fatally injured on N3 northbound Ekurhuleni truck crash
The DEMS rescue team from Germiston Central Fire Station responded to the scene to render necessary interventions.
A driver was killed when two smaller trucks collided into a stationary truck on the N3 northbound between Elands and Geldenhuys interchange on August 7.
According to the DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi the crash occurred at about 3pm.
“Five lanes of the seven were closed and negatively affected traffic flow throughout the peak time. The remaining two drivers survived the crash with no injuries,” said Ntladi.
The spokesperson added the DEMS rescue team from Germiston Central Fire Station responded to the scene to render necessary interventions.

“Upon arrival, the one driver was found motionless and trapped behind the steering wheel of his truck.”
Ntladi said the truck with the deceased driver carried about 4 000 litres of flammable Ethanol.
“One drum had already ran out across the road.The second truck carried about 3.6 tons of Xanthates granules, which are flammable.”
The third truck was fully loaded with bags of cement.
“The body of the deceased driver was recovered by the rescue team after an intense battle using specialised hydraulic rescue tools including the Jaws of Life.
“All relevant resources were called to the scene including a water tanker and foam tender from the local fire station due to the hazardous chemical and fire risk identified.”
