Zonkizizwe man arrested for illegal possession of firearm
A 38-year-old man is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Zonkizizwe police media spokesperson Sgt Rufus Tema described how on September 16 detectives received a tip- off from an anonymous resident about someone in possession of a firearm.
The police immediately went to the address in Zone 3 where the suspect resides.
Upon arrival, the police searched the suspect and found the firearm. The suspect then failed to produce a licence to possess the firearm and was immediately arrested.
The 9mm pistol with a filed-off serial number was taken to the police laboratories for forensic examination to determine whether or not it was involved in any crime.
The Zonkizizwe SAPS station commander, Lt Col Munaf Ismail, commended the positive police-community relationship.
“Some of the criminals stay with us in the community. It is of utmost importance that the positive relationship is kept intact if we are to get rid of the criminals,” said Ismail.
