WATCH: Bowen’s got talent
The principal said performing arts allows learners to express themselves and build their confidence.
Learners from Bowen International School showcased their talent to celebrate Heritage Day on September 25.
Nadia Gaffoor, the principal of Bowen International School, said learners performed their rehearsed and unrehearsed dances, namely the popular Jerusalema.
“The Phendula performance from our foundation learners represented a plea for our land to be healed. Parents were excited to watch the videos and receive photos throughout the day,” said Nadia.
“Educators were surprised to see the introverted children also participating and enjoying the dances,” said the principal.
“Song and dance was always a tradition for all South Africans going back to the Khoisan days. This legacy continues as part of how we express social interactions.”
The principal said performing arts allows learners to express themselves and build their confidence.
“It is also rewarding to see the talent of learners being expressed. They were not shy to perform, no matter the culture or traditions.”
She said this was also an opportunity for learners to feel free in their cultural attire and learn more about each other’s cultural heritage as South Africans.
“South Africans are proud to sing and dance no matter what the occasion is. This relieves stress and helps them forget about their worries while being at school.
The event was also used to gain marks for life skills and life orientation.
