Community brings winter warmth to Kruinhof Retirement Village
The initiative was made possible by New Life Unity Church in Edenvale
Rest-a-While manager Trudy Carreira and Kade Guerreiro of Ward 92 visited the Kruinhof Retirement Village on August 14 to hand over knitted blankets, beanies and scarves to help keep the elderly warm during the last winter days.
The initiative was made possible by the New Life Unity Church in Edenvale, which knitted the winter items. Carreira expressed gratitude to the women of the church for the donation.
“The ladies generously gave their time and skills to support elderly members of the community,” she said.

“Their contribution went beyond simply providing blankets. It was a reminder that small acts of kindness can bring comfort, dignity and a sense of belonging to those who need it most.”
For Rest-a-While, initiatives such as these form part of the centre’s broader commitment to supporting and caring for elderly residents.
The centre provides a place where older people can receive assistance, socialise and feel valued within their community.
Carreira expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed towards making the donation possible, saying that the support demonstrates the power of communities working together.
She encouraged the community to continue supporting its work, stressing that donations, volunteering and acts of kindness all play an important role in ensuring elderly residents are not forgotten.
