Personal trainer and fitness enthusiast Karabo Dilebo, a 25-year-old Primrose Hill resident, dreams of helping thousands of people and children with low self-esteem.

He holds a prosomal trainer certificate with ETA College and is also qualified in sports administration, holding group classes, as well as first aid.

“I would love to run a programme that caters for children and helps improve their life skills through sport. What led me to be who I am right now was the Laureus Youth Empowerment through Sport (YES) Programme.

“The programme enabled me to be surrounded by people from different countries and backgrounds, which was bliss. I was also mentored for two weeks by Natalie du Toit. It was profound and powerful.”

Jill Benting of the Laureus YES Programme said Dilebo is an incredible and inspiring young man. The trainer said his fitness journey started in 2013 when he took a gap year.

He is now creating his own fitness brand.

“I am also looking at running boot camps.”

He explained how Covid-19 affected him as a personal trainer.

“I had to adapt to a new system and quickly. It is saddening to see the number of deaths and businesses closing due to the pandemic.”

According to Dilebo, getting back to the gym has helped a lot of people get back to training routines with friends and trainers.

The trainer said the highlight of his work is seeing people’s transformations and building genuine relationships with clients and their families.

He urged trainers to work more with each other.

“This is one industry where trainers don’t always collaborate to build one another, it is more of a competitive and ego-driven industry. I am blessed to collaborate and help other professionals who need my help and vice-versa. Together, we can expand and become a force to be reckoned with.”

Dilebo shared five tips to becoming a successful a personal trainer:

• Start with the basics
• Eat healthy food
• Keep track of your goals on a daily
• Reaffirm yourself on a daily basis. Training starts in the mind and the body will follow. Once you’ve mastered being positive, just keep doing it, this will become your lifestyle.
• Just enjoy it. Learn to not make it a job rather treat it as your free time to yourself.
