Katlehong North SAPS arrest 10 suspects for various crimes

All the arrested suspects will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court.

Katlehong North SAPS arrested 10 suspects during an operation in the Katlehong area on the weekend.

The suspects were arrested for various crimes, including contravention of a court order, house break-in and theft, common assault, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, possession of drugs, intimidation, drunk driving and rape.

Katlehong SAPS spokesperson Capt Lesetja Mathobela said one of the suspects allegedly raped his ex-girlfriend after he invaded her house.

“We also had two different incidents of reported rape cases where a 17-year-old boy was raped and a 12-year-old child was raped by a tenant after he sent the child to the tuck shop to buy an airtime voucher,” said Mathobela.

All the arrested suspects will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

Mathobela encourages parents to be more involved in their children’s lives and support them in all aspects. He said it is vital for parents to know where their children are, who they are with, and whether they are safe.

“Police have a high level of commitment in the fight against gender-based violence and will ensure women and children feel safe in the community. There is zero tolerance to such heinous crimes in our society,” said Mathobela.

The acting station commander, Col Johan Botha, applauded the members for squeezing out criminals and leaving no room for crime in Katlehong.
