EMPD arrests a man armed with an unlicensed firearm

The suspect was immediately charged with armed robbery and theft of a cellphone and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

On November 24, a male suspect from Kathorus who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm and a stolen iPhone was arrested by members the EMPD’s Specialised Task Team during an anti-crime operation in Vosloorus.

When the officers arrived at the police station with the suspect, a man who had arrived a few minutes earlier to report a robbery of his cellphone in Mnyama Street pointed at the handcuffed man who had robbed him.

The suspect was immediately charged with armed robbery and theft of a cellphone and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The stolen unlicensed firearm found in possession of the suspect and the cellphone he robbed from a local resident he later met at the police station.

He was detained at the Vosloorus Police Station where he later appeared for a formal remand while detectives continue to investigate.
