SAPS visit the elderly, talk about GBV and safety
“Safety for the elderly is important in our community,” said Masindi.
Germiston SAPS, under station commander Brig Nkhensani Lemba, visited Kinross Herberg Old Age Home to raise awareness on gender-based violence, Covid-19 and safety concerns on November 25.
The old age home manager, Jozelle Steenkamp, said the residents appreciated the visit.
Germiston spokesperson Const Maxwell Mabunda said members of Germiston SAPS social crime prevention, SAPS women’s network, EMPD, mayor’s office and Department of Safety were part of the initiative.

“We wanted to make sure they feel protected by our presence. The elderly were happy to see law enforcement at their home and they were allowed to raise concerns. An opportunity was given for a one-on-one talk with officials,” said Mabunda.
Lemba also addressed the elderly, promising police visibility.
The Department of Community Safety’s Tokyo Masindi encouraged the elderly to report any crime.
“Safety for the elderly is important in our community,” said Masindi.
