Johnson Matthey celebrates volunteer day with the elderly
Johnson Matthey, a company based in Germiston, celebrated the day by visiting the Dukathole Old Age Centre.
December 5 was International Volunteer Day.
This day was designated by the United Nations in 1985 as an international observance day to celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism.
Johnson Matthey (JM), a company based in Germiston, celebrated the day by visiting the Dukathole Old Age Centre.
Staff members from JM spent a few hours with the elderly and also donated 35 food parcels and Covid-19 care kits.
“Our company is based in the area and to celebrate the day we decided it would be wonderful if we can visit the elderly and also bring something for Christmas,” said Tobeka Xoko, a JM social worker.
“We are grateful for the donations and for JM to come and visit us at the centre,” said Neliswa Mntuyedwa, social auxiliary worker.
The Dukathole Centre was established in 2004 and provides services to the previously disadvantaged elderly.
