EMPD officer fatally wounded in vehicle crash in Klippoortjie
A case of culpable homicide was registered at the Elsburg Police Station.
In Klippoortjie, an on-duty EMPD officer deployed in the Vosloorus precinct died after she was involved in a vehicle accident on December 10.
EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng said at the corner of Osborn and Forsdick/R554/Van Dyck roads, a silver Mercedes-Benz driven by a 24-year-old male crashed into a branded EMPD Nissan NP300 driven by the 51-year-old officer at 10pm.
“The officer was crossing Osborn Road before she lost control and rolled.”
The male driver, who sustained slight injuries, was travelling on the R554 Road towards the easterly direction,” said the officer.
“EMS personnel had to use Jaws of Life to extract her lifeless body from the wreckage after she was declared dead on scene by medical experts.”
Mokheseng added it is not clear at this stage what occurred before the crash.
“The EMPD Accident Reconstruction Unit was summoned to the crash site to investigate further.
“A case of culpable homicide was registered at the Elsburg Police Station.”
The intersection was partially closed to the flow of traffic, until all emergency personnel, chaplains, units responsible for motor vehicle recovery and road maintenance concluded on December 11,” said Mokheseng.
