Eight speedsters arrested in Primrose and Boksburg

All arrested motorists will be expected to appear at the Germiston and Boksburg magistrate’s courts soon.

Eight drivers face charges of reckless and negligent driving after they were arrested on December 13 in Primrose on Pretoria Road and in Boksburg on the R21.

Kobeli Mokheseng, the EMPD spokesperson, said the EMPD Speed Enforcement Unit members targeted speedsters where speed limits are zoned 60 and 100km/h.

“A 45-year old male driver, in an SUV, was caught doing 104 instead of 60km/h on Pretoria Road, was handcuffed and taken to Primrose Police Station.

“Five other male drivers and a female travelling between 100 and 103km/h were nabbed.

“The six motorists were granted R1 000 bail.”

Mokheseng added that a 27-year old male driving a white VW Polo hatchback was apprehended for clocking 159km/h, on the R21 south by the 100km/h zone in Boksburg.

“He said he was rushing to visit an admitted sibling in hospital.

“The second male driver to be arrested was the 41-year-old, who alleged he was late for work after he was stopped registering 145km/h.

“The motorists were taken to Boksburg North Police Station.”

All arrested motorists will be expected to appear at the Germiston and Boksburg magistrate’s courts soon.
