Wannenburg Clinic in Primrose received PPE from a private donor on Friday. Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina handed over the PPE to the clinic.
“As the fight against Covid-19 continues, we are grateful to receive such a donation. Even though we supply our clinics with PPE, we can never have enough under these difficult times,” said Masina.
He applauded them for the job they have been doing. “Our numbers have not been very high compared to other places. That shows our health workers have done something right. We are grateful for you and encourage you to keep up the good work,” said Masina.
The donor requested to remain anonymous. The PPE will be handed over to the city’s 77 clinics for healthcare workers. The distribution of the PPE will be to complement the PPE already provided to the city’s healthcare staff.
One hundred 25-litre sanitisers, 5 000 tongue depressors, 12 000 sleeves and 2 500 masks were donated.
“We are grateful for the PPE donation. This will ensure our staff is protected at all times.
“We also thank the mayor for acknowledging the work we do,” said clinic head Hellen Chukudu. A candlelight ceremony and moment of silence were observed to remember health workers who have died during the pandemic.
“We must thank and acknowledge our healthcare workers and the work they do. Before they are health workers they are mothers, wives and sister. They come here every day, risking their lives to serve the community. We appreciate you,” said Masina.
