Watch: Leondale residents take to the streets demanding power

Motorists are urged to avoid the Leondale N3 off ramp

Motorists are urged to avoid the Leondale N3 off ramp as well as all entries into Leondale due to protest action taking place.

Residents of Leondale have taken to the streets after they were left without electricity for about three days.

DA PR Clr Kade Guerreiro said residents demand power once and for all with no more power problems.

Guerreiro said he is unhappy with the state of ward 40 Leondale and wants service delivery and the needs of residents to improve.

“We are still waiting for the department to give us answers and restoration times. Emails have been sent to the mayor and city manager asking for urgent help and attention on this matter. Unfortunately we are still waiting for a reply.”

Guerreiro added businesses and residents are experiencing huge financial losses with food going off and production grinding to a halt.

On Thursday, April 8 the City’s energy department sent communication to Guerreiro, stating the department is aware of the power outage.

“The technicians explained that the problem is bigger than expected.”
