Accused sentenced for Churchill Street house burglary

Primrose Det Sgt Thabang Nawa achieved a conviction recently after successfully investigating a housebreaking on Churchill Street in Primrose, which occurred in February 2020.

Primrose SAPS communications officer Styles Maome said Nawa is based at Primrose’s detective branch.
“Mbokazi Thokozane was arrested on a charge of housebreaking. While in custody, he tried to escape but was re-arrested and charged with escaping lawful custody.”

On March 17, he was sentenced to five years in prison for housebreaking with the intent to steal, as well as a fine of R3 000 or six months’ imprisonment suspended for three years on condition the accused is not convicted again for escaping lawful custody.

“The accused was declared unfit to possess a firearm,” said Maome.
