Katlehong MMYV pageant finalist wants to empower youth
Mr and Miss youth voice (MMYV) finalist Refiloe Choma (27) hopes to unite and empower the youth in her community through an event she will soon host, while on her mission to grasp the MMYV title.
The finalist from Siluma Section said she is passionate about youth empowerment, especially now given the recent high youth unemployment rate.
Choma said as a finalist, her duty is to get involved in community work, unite the community and where possible help disadvantaged families with food donations.
“I want to gather the youth in my community and introduce activities that can keep them off the streets and help them focus on their skills.
“I am currently working on an event, which will be a dance talent show. It will be hosted at one of the local parks in the township as it is a street talent show.
“We are currently looking to host at Siluma Park but it has not been confirmed yet. More information will be available once we publish the posters,” said Choma.
Choma invites the youth to participate in the project as there will be a prize for the winners and opportunities for local business people.
“We want to host local designers, models, hawkers, dancers, local performing artist or anyone who is looking to market and sell their products.

“We are planning to work with various NGOs that can support the youth, whether by sharing information, opportunities or having talks to advise and inspire the youth.
She said they will raise funds during the event and the funds will be directed to support the needy people in the community.
The event is not only limited to the community of Siluma, anyone from Kathorus can attend or be part of the event.
