Late night parties cause for concern
Resident Thomas Botha said he was worried about the lack of discipline in relation to Covid-19 regulations.
Klopperpark residents urge City of Ekurhuleni officials to intervene on several challenges they are faced with including ongoing social parties on Sonnig Street.
There are at least 24 communes in Sonnig and residents told GCN that there are parties held every weekend till late at night.
Resident Thomas Botha said he was worried about the lack of discipline about Covid-19 regulations.

“They do not even wear masks. They always have more than 50 people at each gathering, without masks – partying all night with their music at high volume,” said Botha.
“They often leave their bottles lying in the road and on pavements. Someone has to clean after them the next day, this causes for great concerns,” added Botha.
“In the morning the streets are a mess; they even urinate on peoples’ lawn and walls,” said Botha.
Amongst the challenges facing these residents include power outages and illegal connections of electric power cables.
Resident Mandy Nienaber said people who connect illegally from the power lines do so at night time.
“We did not have electricity since Monday, May 31, the power has not been fixed since we have been calling the CoE,” she said last week.
“The people who answer our calls are often rude over the phone, we cannot continue like this. Our food in the fridge is getting wasted and we have to use cold water in the morning to bathe.
“Those who have connected illegally from the power lines, used blue tape to join the cable from top to bottom, and it does not look like Eskom’s doing,” said Nienaber.
She said that one technician on the ground was approached about the illegal connections and he said he was sent to deal with such issues. Another one said there was a cable failure problem, which caused problems with the supply of electricity to the lines.
The GCN sent a request for comment to CoE on June 2, requesting comment by June 4 at 12.00. At the time of going to print, no comment was received.
