Champagne and laughs with ABC Ladies

While Gilda’s store will close, she assured the NEWS that she will carry on assisting her regular clientele as best as she can from her home.

In 1979, Gilda de Aguiar launched Gilda’s Fashions in Bruma and in April 1995, she launched her store in Bedford Centre.

She became a household name in wearable women’s fashion in Bedfordview and its surroundings.

“I have had clients who supported me for 40 years,” she said.

But, earlier this year, Gilda decided to close her store.

“Because of Covid-19, I cannot import clothes from designers in Europe,” she told the NEWS.

Gilda said along with a hold on imports, designers she’s used for many years were not bringing out new collections.

“Without new collections, I cannot supply to my clients.”

While Gilda’s store will close, she assured the NEWS that she will carry on assisting her regular clientele as best as she can from her home.

“Bedford Centre has always been good to me. I love Bedfordview,” Gilda said.

To bid Gilda’s Fashions farewell, the ABC Ladies Club hosted part of its monthly meeting at her store in Bedford Centre on June 17.

Those who attended the gathering were surprised with a 60% off sale and a short fashion show, as well as champagne and snacks.

The second part of the day’s activities took the women to the Jewellery Connection I Bedfordview where they were hosted by Elizabeth.

The club was able to raise R1 550 for the soup kitchen at the Jan Hofmeyer Centre.
