Morgan and de Beer awarded for service

They both go the extra mile, not just by talking but they are also very much hands-on.

Councillors Alta de Beer and Wendy Morgan received an award from the Germiston Rotary Club for their commitment to serving their communities.

The two were recently awarded at the induction of the president of the Germiston Rotary Club and the president of the Germiston Rotary Anns Club.

De Beer and Morgan were awarded the Magda Janbroers Shield for the Ann who has gone the extra mile, which they share.

Marlene Rodda, president of Germiston Rotary Anns Club, said these two councillors are deserving of the award as they have used their position to ensure they help others.

“Both have worked tirelessly throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to make a difference to the community they serve,” said Rodda.

She said the councillors have ensured that the Anns Club can reach the community in need.

“It is through their dedication of assisting the vulnerable that we as an Anns Club can reach out and connect to especially homes for the elderly and people in need,” said Rodda.

Morgan said it is wonderful and humbling to receive the award.

“My community is very important to me and I try to assist whenever possible and hope that it makes a difference in someone’s life. Receiving this award is a real honour as the Rotary Anns are a group of ladies who are always there to help others, so to be recognised by them is a privilege,” said Morgan.

“Being a ward councillor means having to deal with poor service delivery daily, so when you can contribute to something positive it makes it all worthwhile,” said Morgan.

De Beer shared the same sentiments.

“I’m humbled and honoured to been given these awards, it means a lot to know people acknowledge and value what we do,” said de Beer.
