Richard gets new wheels
"We will present him with a motorised wheelchair in the next few months. I have placed an order," said Govender.
The Community Development Foundation urged the the community to rally in support of a new wheelchair for a disabled man, Richard Mcquana.
Past Barlin Govender said Mcquana is from Primrose.
“I met him on July 24, begging on the side of the road. He has lost both legs. He was shot in riot a long time ago. He lives all alone.
“I greeted him and asked him how long has he been using this wheelchair and he replied 20 years. He travels about about 15km a day from Makause informal settlement to Bedfordview near the Italian Club.
“I asked him what can I give him to make him happy, he said if I can repair his wheelchair wheels that would be great.
“He is kind-hearted and a well-mannered person. He is willing to take any job. Motorists also know him.
“We are planning to present him with a motorised wheelchair in the next few months. I have placed an order,” said Govender.
The pastor added those who wish to support the initiative, can contact him on 084 659 8772.
“We have a shortfall of R10 000 to get him the wheelchair,” said Govender.
