Vehicle strippers busted in Alrode

Law enforcement forces across the public and private sector worked together to arrest four suspects for the theft and duplication of a vehicle on August 25.

Security companies reacted to the alert signal of a Mahindra Scorpio that was stolen the previous day in Alberton.
The vehicle was traced by members from Digit Vehicle Tracking and Rentrack to an address in Alrode South.

On their arrival, they found four men in the process of stripping a Mahindra Scorpio and apprehended them.

On further investigation, the VIN tag and license disk on the vehicle was found not to match the registration plates on the vehicle but rather the vehicle that was sought in the Alberton SAPS theft case.

Cut up pieces of a number plate was also found on the premises that when pieced back together matched the stolen vehicle.

The Vehicle Investigation Section was called out to the scene. Two other vehicles were parked outside of the premises, a grey VW Golf and a white BMW. Several ID documents, vehicle papers, cellphones, cash and other VIN tags were found in the vehicles.

The BMW was found to be a duplicate vehicle and was confiscated by SAPS. When the suspects were searched, the removed VIN tag from the stolen vehicle was found in the possession of one of the suspects.

“The men were arrested by SAPS and detained for possession of the stolen vehicle at SAPS Brackendowns,” said WO Gerhard Cornelius.

“Both vehicles, all found evidence and cash were handed in at the SAPS as evidence. Excellent work from all role players to bring these men to justice.”
