Covid hits Germiston Training Centre
"This is my legacy, passed down by my father. Now there are considerations of closing," said Lekoadu.
Germiston Training Centre is looking for help due to Covid-19.
It is no secret that many small businesses and NPOs have taken a knock.
GCN sat down with Germiston Training Centre manager, Venecia Lekoadu, who mentioned the centre has been operating since he was young.

“We trained people on welding and boiler making, it’s a physically demanding field,” said Lekoadu.
“The centre has trained a lot of young people. We were in a good working relationship with some guys who recently left the country due to the pandemic. They brought young people for training to our centre since we operated as a welding school too.”
He said they used to train young people and they would then be awarded a certificate after their courses were completed.
“The training costs about R2 000 to R3 000 per person, which only covers the cost of the equipment.
“We are looking for a sponsorship that will be able to pay for children to do these courses. The economy depends on the energy of these young people,” he said.
Lekoadu mentioned that due to Covid-19, he has lost business and he had to let staff go.
“I had to let two of my employees go because I couldn’t pay them anymore. They have families to feed too and I have my family to take care of as well, but the business is not looking out for all of us at the moment.
“This is my legacy, passed down by my father. Now there are considerations of closing,” said Lekoadu.
