Modderfontein night drill showcases firefighting talent

This was the first event at the centre to take place in front of an audience since the venue was taken over by The Public Safety Company last year.

Three teams of professional and volunteer firefighters took the opportunity to participate in a firefighting night drill at Fire Training Centre (FTC) Modderfontein on Friday night.
This was the first event at the centre to take place in front of an audience since the venue was taken over by The Public Safety Company last year.
Approximately 400 spectators registered to attend the free event.
Teams that participated were The Public Safety Custodians, Station 26 Modderfontein and Emergency Control South Africa (ECSA).
ECSA are a self-funded volunteer service whose members respond to calls for assistance across the City of Johannesburg.
Volunteer firefighters with ECSA tackle everything from grass and structural fires to vehicle collisions and emergency calls.
The Public Safety Company custodians consist of a team of former volunteer firefighters who have worked with fire stations across the City of Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni.
As the Modderfontein community’s fire station, Station 26 accepted the invitation to display their skills at the night drill.
The night drill took place under the control of a safety officer to ensure the safety of spectators and participants alike.
After the event, firefighters took to the opportunity to engage with community members and pose for photographs with children.
Iain Fourie from The Public Safety Company said community members can look forward to similar events in the future.
Details of events and how residents can register to be in attendance will be posted to the FTC Modderfontein Facebook page.
