Residents march for service delivery
“We hope that this petition will show the City how urgent and serious the issue of lack of service delivery is and how it has affected residents,” said Jakkie.

Lamdel Residents Association, with a request from the residents, held a service delivery march on September 24 at Houtpark.
The purpose of the march was for residents to express their grievances and disappointment about the lack of service delivery.
Lamdel chairperson Jakkie Janse van Vuuren said they “have had enough of the City of Ekurhuleni’s games”.
“Residents are paying for services that they don’t receive. When they request answers for why there is no service delivery the CoE is not giving clear answers. Residents are tired and we demand action and proper services,” said Janse van Vuuren.
Residents from Lambton and surrounding areas raised grievances about unplanned power outages and illegal buildings.

The memorandum of grievances together with the service delivery petition, street light audit and illegal buildings and connection audit was handed over to Ward 39 Clr Alta de Beer.
“Even though people didn’t come out in numbers for the march, they showed their support by signing the petition. The strength of this community lies with the residents. We will continue to demand better service delivery,” said Janse van Vuuren.
“We hope that this petition will show the city how urgent and serious the issue of lack of service delivery is and how it has affected residents.”
De Beer said the petition highlights the hundreds of street lights not working, the illegal buildings in Delville, Parkhill Gardens, and Lambton, and the thousands of calls that were logged with Ekurhuleni during the unplanned energy outages.
“The petition was handed in on September 30 during the council meeting,” said de Beer.
“I have received acknowledgement from the petitions and hearings manager confirming that the petition will be submitted to the Public Participation and Petitions (PPP) Standing Committee for consideration,” said de Beer.
She said it’s sad that residents have to fight for service delivery.
“I am looking forward to the outcome of the PPP committee. I hope they can understand how the lack of service delivery has affected residents,” said de Beer.
