Unbeaten Liverpool Development Football Club is hopeful that they can win the Germiston Local Football Association League.
With only five league games left at the time of the GCN’s interview, the team’s coach was confident that they will finish the season unbeaten.
Lucky Muthele, Liverpool Development FC coach, chairperson and founder, said the u-17’s are sitting in pole position.

“The club started in 2012 when we identified the need to recognise young talent and nurture it. There was so much undirected talent wandering the streets of Germiston,” said Muthele.
The club initially began with two divisions, the u-13’s and the u-15’s.
“Currently, we have four divisions that include the u-17’s and the u-23’s. We aim to have a women’s division to develop women’s talent in the area.”
“We have one young girl who is part of the team playing with the boys. She is talented and the nice thing is that the boys treat her no differently. She has adapted very well to our training methods,” said Muthele.
The chairperson added that the secret to their success is discipline and teamwork accompanied by consistent training.
“Our level of discipline is very strict, we do not tolerate bullying, smoking or drinking.”
According to Muthele, Covid-19 has affected the structure of local football in a whole different manner.
“When Covid-19 first struck we had to change our training patterns. We had to have three groups, one in the morning, afternoon and late afternoon. It was tough.”
In 2015 the team hosted its first tournament in association with Debonairs Pizza and lost in the finals on penalties.
“The second event was in 2019 when we welcomed Mark Fish Foundation. The third event was a huge success though and we had teams from Mpumalanga, Germiston and surroundings areas,” said Muthele.
In 2019, the u-15’s and u-17’s won the Ramaphosa Mini League. In December 2020, they won the Real Fatherhood Foundation tournament hosted in Kempton Park and was awarded the SAFA Youngest Team in the League.
