“After my football career failed I took up running in the mornings. I met up with a long time friend Andrew Ngubane who was an athlete. He invited me to take running more seriously and I never looked back.”
In April 1990, Morobane participated in his first Comrades Marathon finishing in 7 hours and 15 minutes, taking home a silver medal.
“The feeling of that night is unexplainable, no one can take that away from me. The environment was different and warm. The silver medal was my first, said Morobane.
He finished his 10th Comrades in 7 hours and 15 minutes, the exact same time as his first.
Morobane encouraged young people to take up sports to keep healthy.
“At my age, I still wake up every day and run the streets of Germiston. On Saturdays I do a 30km run.”
Morobane has accumulated five silver medals in succession at the Comrades.
