“The local government has to create jobs for us. I did a welding course and though I didn’t finish due to financial issues I still possess the skills and knowledge.

“When you are looking for a job they want you to be experienced. We hope those leading us will take that chance on us so that we can gain the necessary experience.”

Simphiwe Magagula said he would like to see leadership that prioritises the needs of the youth.

“We need more engagement with the youth. We are young, gifted and talented. We have our way of doing things.

The only problem is that the leaders have no way of creating opportunities for us as young people. I finished matric and did a one-year learnership on business administration.

“If our councillors, the mayor and others engage with us we can then together identify opportunities,” said Magagula.
