Katlehong police warn of white Nissan Almera robbing residents

Katlehong police are warning residents to be cautious of occupants of a white Nissan Almera with a false registration number in the Katlehong area robbing people.

According to Kathehong North SAPS media liaison officer Capt Lesetja Mathobela, the suspects are a female and two men who are involved in ATM scams and grab and run of personal items like cellphones and handbags from victims.

Mathobela shared safety tips to help residents avoid falling victims to crime.

Safety in the street

• Beware of people asking for personal information while offering you goods.

• Maintain a safe distance from any unknown person to you.

• Wrap your handbag around your neck, shoulder or wrist.

• Walk on the street facing oncoming traffic, if someone in a car stops near you run in the opposite direction.

• Shout as loud as you can for help when attacked, it makes it easier for people to identify you as a person in need of help.

• If you are bugged by an unknown caller, simply put the phone down without saying anything.

• When approaching your parked car, check the surroundings to see if you are not followed or whether there is are no people next to your car.

• Do not carry large sums of money.

• Never ask someone to help you or carry your groceries.

The acting station commander, Lt-Col Johan Botha, urged the community to participate in community safety by joining the CPF, neighbourhood watch and forums to work with the police in patrolling the area.

“Everybody has the right to live their life free from violence, fear, abuse and to live in safety,” said Botha.
