Four Heavy Stone FC players selected for trails
“It is not that easy but we try by all means to always do our best because it is not just about soccer, it is about managing the children so that they have a brighter future,”
At least four of the outstanding players from Heavy Stone FC have been selected for the School of Excellence (SoE) trials last year.
The SoE called on Local Football Associations (LFAs) to invite players born between 2008 and 2009 to join the trails to stand a chance to be selected and be part of the SoE.
All the selected players from Heavy Stone FC are 14-year-old dedicated soccer players including Lehlogonolo Makgopy, Paballo Molefe, Moshe Maitisa and Kefilwe Khalo. The players will again have to show off their skills in the pitch to book their spot at the SoE.
The founder and head coach of Heavy Stone FC Moses Mokoka expressed his happiness with the success of the team, adding that is an achievement for the club.
“I am is very happy although it was not easy for us especially when training players as young as this because you have to develop them from scratch then move on to coaching them.
“It is not that easy but we try by all means to always do our best because it is not just about soccer, it is about managing the children so that they have a brighter future,” Mokoka.
Mokoka said what sets the selected players apart from others is not just talent.
“The four have few common elements that made them outstanding, they have that understanding of knowing when to keep and when to pass the ball which is very important,” he continued.
“I also like how they think, it shows their great skill of communication with other players and me as the team manager and coach. The most important element they have is respect, I believe that if they continue like this they will go far with their careers,” he said.
He said building a team is not easy as it requires a collective effort.
“I think the support from their parents also contributed a lot to their success during the trials because it helps a player to boost their performance, you can see even when they play that they do everything with the intention,” he added.
Mokoka thanked parents for supporting their children, in the same breath, he encouraged other parents to follow suit.
He advised parents to visit the sports grounds now and then to check whether their child attends training.
He explained that some players lie to their parents claiming that they are going to training while they go elsewhere to mix up with the wrong crowd and end up doing wrong things.
