“We are ready for what the year has to bring. We will continue to work with security companies, CPF, the community and other relevant stakeholders,” said Primrose SAPS communications officer Sgt Styles Maome.

“Business burglary showed an increase during the festive seasons as culprits target businesses that are excluded from movement of people.

“In December, less house break-ins were reported compared to January. Always let your neighbours when you will be away for a certain period of time. They can become your watchdog.”

Maome said motorists must be cautious on the road at all times and check for suspicious cars that follow them.

“When entering your residential area, be alert to cars following you. Criminals follow victims to their homes to hijack cars.

“If you suspect someone is following you, call someone at home to open the gate for you and watch before you enter the property or drive around the block before entering your premises,” he said.

“We continue with our GBV awareness and school safety awareness campaigns. We hope to move towards free and safe learning environments for learners at schools.

“We also urge residents to report crimes to the police and not resort to mob justice. We remind residents in secluded areas to always walk in groups to avoid robbery and rape.”
