Driehoek issues not resolved
“The doors are falling apart. Last we reported that there is an elder who is unable to move around a lot and her door collapsed into her room. Luckily, she was not injured.”
Pamela Mileham again raised accusations against City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) for failing to address the demands of pensioners residing at the Driehoek elderly accommodation.

CoE has been accused of failing to maintain the historic building that has been turned into elderly accommodation at 33 Rose Innes Road.
Mileham said since December, the conditions at the building have worsened and more occupants have been put in danger.
“I am a pensioner boarding at this once beautiful, historic building. Whenever we report anything that is broken or wrong, we are ignored and are told there is no budget,” said Mileham.
“The doors are falling apart. Last we reported that there is an elder who is unable to move around a lot and her door collapsed into her room. Luckily, she was not injured.
“The Ekurhuleni authorities do not allow us to do anything by ourselves. They do not do anything about things that are broken and they don’t want us to fix anything.
“All we do is report and report but no one has ever taken our concerns seriously. The walls are full of mould and the paint is deteriorating.”
Mileham repeated her previous concerns of security risks and said the gate motor nor the kitchen geyser is not working.
“To wash pots, we have to carry a bucket to the kitchen. This is dangerous for the elders because they can slip and fall at any time.
“Fire hydrants have not been serviced for years, wooden window frames are rotting and there are leaks when it rains,” said Mileham.
CoE previously commented that the human settlement department is responsible for day-to-day maintenance and real estate department for garden upkeep.
Clr Wendy Morgan said there has been no budget allocated to upgrade or maintain the building.
A request for comment was sent to the City of Ekurhuleni on February 3, requesting comment by February 4 at 11:00.
At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
