Scouts celebrate BP Sunday

The event was hosted by the 1st Sao Jorge Scout Group in their brand-new scout hall in Primrose and was followed by a soccer tournament at the nearby soccer fields.

Residents of Sunnyridge and Primrose woke to the skirl of bagpipes as hundreds of scouts and guides paraded through the streets of northern Germiston in celebration of the birthday of the founder of Scouts and Guides, Lord Baden-Powell.

The event was hosted by the 1st Sao Jorge Scout Group in their brand-new scout hall in Primrose and was followed by a soccer tournament at the nearby soccer fields.

As part of the celebrations, various awards were given out, with Harmelia Gardens Air Scouts being named the best Meerkat Den and Scout Troop, 1st St Benedict’s being named the best Cub Pack and 1st Bedfordview being named the best overall Scout Group in the district.

There are nine scout groups in the Bedfordview and Edenvale areas.

Members of Scouts are aged between five and 25 and enjoy camping, hiking, the great outdoors and fun.
