Sibeko prepares for the SA Marathon Champs

Runner Thulani Sibeko, Cool Running Athletics Club’s coach, continues to train to regain fitness ahead of the South African Marathon Championships.

The athlete migrated to Edenvale in 2017 and trains at Germiston Stadium.

In 2017, while training, he met with Kabelo Morongwa, a fellow athlete who would later become his first athlete.

Today, he has 48 athletes whom he coaches.

“I have competed in the Cape Town Marathon, Johnson Crane Marathon, Mandela Remembrance Walk & Run and SA Champs Track and Field,” said Sibeko.

“After those competitions, I did not compete until this year after I took a two-year break. When I was ready to return to the field, Covid-19 hit us for two years and contact sports were halted.”

Recently, he competed at the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Track and Field competitions in Boksburg, where he made his fitness assessment.

He said he is still struggling with his fitness but believes he will be strong enough before the championships.

“It will not be an easy competition, but I intend to bring the gold home,” said Sibeko.
