NGO provides free youth skills
In Tokoza MF offers training to NGOs based on requests while in Vosloorus training it is conducted at Thutomfundo Adult centre (TAC), on daily basis.
Germiston based NGO Mentec Foundation (MF) is upskilling youth with technology and employability skills through their programme in the Gauteng province.
The program is rolled out in all Gauteng districts, with Thokoza and Vosloorus among the benefitting townships.
In Tokoza, MF offers training to NGOs based on requests while in Vosloorus training it is conducted at Thutomfundo Adult Centre (TAC) daily.
The foundation’s employability and digital skills programme is an online and classroom job readiness programme, enjoying the support of Microsoft and the Gauteng provincial government.
According to MF project lead and CEO assistant Nkgethiseng Motloung, their objective is to promote technology and self-branding skills in order to equip communities with relevant skills for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
She said they started implementing the programs at TAC in February 2021, whereby all the beneficiaries of the school are empowered with the skills.

The skills in the programme include computer literacy, coding, robotics, AI, Cloud computing, internet and data analytics.
“Over 700 learners have completed our digital programs and were certified. Forty learners were selected for the solar and renewable energy program for two months through our enterprise development (black industrialist hub) unit under the auspices of MF,” said Motloung.
A beneficiary from Ext 9, Vosloorus Lesego Mafuma (20), said the programme is great and he learnt a lot from it.
He joined in February to start with his data analytics course, which he completed.
“This is something that will benefit everyone who tries it as we are living in the 4IR. The programme equips the youth with skills and job placement which is vital for the youth given the unemployment rate in our communities,” said Mafuma.
He said he has also received a certificate for a subject titled understanding technology, he is currently doing a course on technology then and now.
“Once I have completed the course I am doing now I will try to apply what I have learnt from the courses I have done.”
