The ward leadership looks forward to having a budget that will help enhance infrastructure development.

Ward 36 is often faced with water- and power-related problems. In recent weeks, it experienced a seven-day water outage.

Morgan partly blamed old infrastructure and theft as the cause in parts of Wychwood, Primrose, Sunnyridge and Primrose Hill.

She said at times, Rand Water fails to supply water to the ward’s water reservoirs.

“The Churchill water pump station is often broken into and as a result water supply is interrupted. A new pump had to be sourced,” said Morgan.

“In Windsor Street, an old pipe had to be fixed. Old infrastructure plays a role in prohibiting us to delivering adequate services to the people.

“It is within the long-term plan to build a second water reservoir at the Bill Stewart Nature Reserve.

“The generator in the Churchill pump station was vandalised, and we tried to get that resolved. A 24-hour security was deployed,” said Morgan.

Malibongwe Mbula, economic development and city planning for the ward committee, shared insights of how the ward can improve its unemployment rate and fast track economic growth.

He said infrastructure and its safety needs to be prioritised to boost the local economy and drive investors to the area.

“Maintenance of main roads and main interceptions need to be pririotised. These roads are used to transport goods by local manufacturing companies. They can’t afford to lose business because of the state of our roads,” said Mbula.

“We need locals to be part of the projects that take place in our wards. When there is a tender to fix roads or any big project, we need the subcontractor to incorporate locals in their team. That way, we collapse the unemployment rate within the ward.
