Local athlete returns home from big games in Kenya

Neo Hlalukane now aims for the next upcoming Olympics.

Germiston athlete Neo Hlalukane returned home with a track and field 800m gold medal from the 10th FASU All Africa University Games, held in Kenya.

He trains under the auspices of Thulani Sibeko Training at Germiston Stadium.

He competed under the banner of the University of Johannesburg and also took part in the 400m and 4×4 relay competitions respectively.

Hlalukane said it was a privilege to be part of the UJ team.

“We had to quickly restructure our strategies to make our comeback. From then we dominated and surprised many of our competitors.

Training coach Thulani Sibeko said they are now aiming to compete in the upcoming Olympics.

“I am happy to see our plans coming together. We worked hard from when we started training together,” said Sibeko.

“We are working towards improving his personal best record to 1.45 seconds. Olympics stages are a different ball game,” he said.
