Elsburg defeated by Kempton on the field

Every player in the match day 22 stood up to the task, and outplayed Elsburg from the start, to win the match 74-7.

Kempton Park Rugby Club’s Wolwe outplayed Elsburg to win away from home 74-7 on Saturday.

The match was an important game for the Wolwe to keep their play-off hopes alive.

Behind the scenes, club chairperson Patrick van Loenen persuaded his Elsburg counterpart Jorrie Jordaan to bring a competitive team for the game.

The Kempton Park side thanked Jordaan and the Elsburg Rugby Club for their commitment to the sport.

The Wolwe had the opportunity to rest some of their key players to ensure they have fit competitive sides to face Sasolburg at home on July 30.

The Wolwe gave the spectators plenty to cheer for, scoring 12 tries against the one from Elsburg.

A welcome return from injury by fullback Shane ‘Buysie’ Buys saw him give a stellar performance, jotting down twice.

Another brace belonged to Dehan ‘Porkie’ du Plessis, rewarding the forwards for the great work they put in throughout the game.

Awesome ball carrying and offloading skills were on show when the forward player of the match, George Killian and Stephan Venter raced down the line to see Stephan score in the corner.

This was one of the six tries scored by the forwards.

Ruan Botha had a great day as the flyhalf, with plenty of ball received from the forwards.

An outstanding play by the backline player of the match Gerson Helder must be mentioned. Gerson went over the chalk line twice.

Dipono Malatzi, Stephan Venter, Arny Engelbrecht, Farai Moyo, Tyrone Coetzee and Francois Roux each scored.

Gerson Helder, Shane Buys and Dehan du Plessis each celebrated a brace.

Botha boasted seven conversions.

The Wolwe coaching staff had nothing but praise for the whole squad and said that although certain aspects of the game can improve, the overall performance was exactly what was needed ahead of the big game against Sasolburg.

Kempton Rugby Club management thanked the coaches and every player for their commitment and passion.

The club has invited everyone to support the local legends on Saturday, July 30 for the home game against Sasolburg.

The second team kicks off at 14:40 and the first team will kick off at 16:00.
