Two alleged bank card thieves arrested at Sam Ntuli Mall

Two bank scammers that steal, defraud and scam people from bank cards have been arrested by SAPS Katlehong Vispol members.

Katlehong station commander Brigadier Albertina Vesi welcomed the arrest of two suspects, aged between 30 and 33, for alleged theft.

The pair are accused of stealing, defrauding and scamming people of their bank cards.

Katlehong South SAPS media liaison officer Constable Sivenkosi Mtwa said the special task team of security personnel has been following up on information about the two suspects who terrorise communities around Ekurhuleni by stealing, defrauding and scamming people’s bank cards at ATMs.

He said this duo was closely monitored as they were spotted at Sam Ntuli Mall on August 25. They were caught after stealing a bank card from a 23-year-old victim.

The task team and Katlehong Vispol members arrested the two suspicious men, milling around the ATMs to find their next prey.

“The victim alleges he was attempting to withdraw money from an ATM at the mall when his bank card was stolen by these suspects. They posed to be assisting him before they took his bank card and disappeared,” Mtwa explained.

“He got suspicious and immediately informed the security personnel that contacted the police who managed to apprehend the two men.

“Upon searching the suspects, the police found a speed point machine together with the bank card that was stolen from the victim,” said Mtwa.

He said both suspects were apprehended. Preliminary investigations revealed the pair resides in KwaThema.

“They will also be profiled to establish whether they are linked to related crimes committed in other malls around Ekurhuleni.”

Mtwa confirmed a case docket for theft was opened for further investigation and other charges might be added during the investigation.

Both suspects will appear at Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
