The initiative changes lives daily and this Mandela Day was Hospices’ turn.

Representing the 17 Hospice organisations in Gauteng was Jacqui Kaye who joined Martin Bester and his team in the studio to discuss palliative care, Hospice and how listeners could help.

“Jacaranda FM listeners, corporates and supporters of Good Morning Angels came together and donated a total of R1 071 500 to our cause,” said Hospice Eastrand marketing and media liaison Jonquil Siepman.

“The Good Morning Angels team rounded the figure to R1 104m in honour of the 104 years old Madiba would have been this year.”

She said Hospice Eastrand recently received its share of the donation.

“To say thank you to everyone involved, from those who initiated the fundraiser to those who graciously supported it just does not seem adequate.”

Chairperson of the Gauteng Hospice and Palliative Care Association (GHPCA) Tersia Burger said palliative care is often undervalued and misunderstood.

“Most people think Hospice is a death sentence and it is not,” said Tersia.

Palliative care focuses on relieving the pain and suffering of those diagnosed with a life-limiting illness.

Hospice provides support for patients and family members.
