Three suspects arrested for cable and infrastructure theft in Phumula

After receiving a call from a resident in Phumula, the Alberton SAPS arrested three suspects for cable and infrastructure theft on March 6.

The Alberton SAPS arrested three suspects for cable and infrastructure theft in sector three of their policing precincts, Phumula, on March 6.

According to the spokesperson of the Alberton SAPS, Manare Ramotshela, members received a call from a resident in Phumula about a crime taking place. On arrival, they found the suspects still on the scene. They were disturbed by the swift response of the SAPS and the armed response company.

“The community of Phumula came out in numbers looking forward to giving the suspects a hiding because they have had it with the criminals. However, we are against that as SAPS. The SAPS members called for backup and apprehended the three suspects, aged between 25 and 31,” said Manare.

To avoid charges of interference, the Alberton SAPS warned locals that they should immediately hand over everything to them once members of the SAPS have arrived at the crime scene.

“Police are doing everything in their power to stop crime. As the SAPS, we plead with the public to give officers a chance to perform their duties. Thank you to the community of Phumula for staying vigilant of their surroundings,” Manare concluded.

The Alberton SAPS station commander welcomed the arrest and commended the members for a job well done.
