Job scammer caught by members of EMPD

The EMPD warned residents to be vigilant of job scams targeting the unemployed.

In a significant breakthrough, the EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Unit officers apprehended a male suspect (31) on August 9 for fraud.

The suspect, accused of defrauding job seekers, was found with a laptop, cellphones and several CVs.

Earlier this year, a CoE MMC reported a case of fraud at the Rabasotho Police Station.

The MMC had discovered someone was using her name to deceive job seekers and promised them intensive EMPD training in the Free State.

The person coerced the victims into paying a certain amount to qualify for the training.

On receiving the complaint, the EMPD officers apprehended the fraudster at his residence in the Difateng section.

The suspect was handcuffed and taken to the Rabasotho Police Station, where he was held pending further legal proceedings.

Authorities believed more arrests would follow as investigations continued because they suspected the imposter did not operate alone in this fraud scheme.

The Thembisa Magistrate’s Court will soon handle the case, where the imprisoned suspect will face charges relating to fraud.

The CoE commended the EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Unit officers for their dedication and successful efforts in cracking down on this job scam.

According to the city, the arrest was a stern warning to those who sought to exploit vulnerable job seekers for personal gain.

The CoE urged all community members to be cautious and vigilant when seeking employment opportunities.

Job scams not only cause financial loss and emotional distress to individuals seeking employment but also undermine the trust and confidence of the community.

In light of this incident, the CoE encouraged residents to find legitimate employment opportunities through official channels, such as government job portals, reputable recruitment agencies, or directly through reputable companies.
