Local star claims MMA national title, targets Pro Boxing
This win adds to her impressive record of 5-1 in MMA.
Dinizia Monteiro claimed gold at the Mixed Martial Arts South Africa (MMASA) National Championships held at DLI Hall, Durban, from June 13 to 15.
This win adds to her impressive MMA record of 5-1.
But Monteiro (17) is more than just an MMA fighter. She is also a talented boxer with a 3-1 record and holds the title of Titan Combat Boxing U18 Youth Champion. She prefers boxing for its stand-up fighting style.
In addition, she is a skilled shot put athlete, track runner and netball player, having won silver at the South African Schools Athletics National Championships.

With her sights set on a professional boxing career, Monteiro is an athlete to watch. Her mother, a former boxer, likely inspired her interest in the sport.
Monteiro’s dedication and passion are an inspiration to young athletes.
“I’m proud of my performance in Durban; I’ve put in a lot of work to stay at the top of my game,” she said.
“When I first stepped into the boxing ring, I was nervous and lost my match. However, I won my belt in my third fight, which was a huge confidence booster.
“Martial arts has helped me grow and focus, though training for boxing and MMA requires different approaches.
“My coach has been a huge inspiration, especially since I had no prior fighting experience aside from my track and field background,” Monteiro added.
