Primrose community rallies behind CPF Sector 2 at fundraising drive
A highlight of the day was the popular boerie wors campaign, where residents purchased wors rolls for R40 while also participating in a blood donation drive.
CPF Sector 2 hosted a successful fundraising event on October 4, at Lily Pharmacy in Homestead.
The event drew strong support from local residents and businesses alike.
The event, held in collaboration with the Democratic Alliance (DA), South African National Blood Service (SANBS), Lily Pharmacy, and other local stakeholders, aimed to raise much-needed funds to sustain CPF operations.

CPF Sector 2 chairperson Anna Marie Victor praised the turnout and the community’s continued support.
“The funds raised for the CPF will assist to keep our patrollers on the streets as we are a voluntary organisation,” said Victor.
“This is how we pay for our expenses, including license plate recognition cameras and operations.”
Victor noted that financial contributions have dwindled drastically, monthly donations have dropped from R3 000 to R700, pushing the CPF to host fundraising events every two months.

“It’s been four years since we’ve been able to buy new jackets, and they come at a high cost,” she added.
“The license plate recognition cameras alone cost between R2 500 and R2 700 per month, but they’ve proven their worth by helping us catch criminals driving stolen vehicles.”
Victor also shed light on the concerning rise in crime in Sector 2, including house break-ins, business robberies, cable theft, and petty crimes.

She detailed several recent incidents:
• A young man was tied up and robbed during daylight on Windsor Road.
• A home on Pitts Avenue was cleaned out while the owners were at work. Footage exists but the vehicle’s number plate couldn’t be identified.
• A cashier was fatally shot during a robbery at the corner of Windsor and Elberfield Avenue on October 3. The case is currently under investigation by Primrose SAPS.
• In Northridge, suspects in a VW Polo snatched an elderly woman’s handbag before fleeing the scene.

“Other affected areas include Sunny Ridge, Sunhurst, and Wannenburg, with the latter seeing an increase in house break-ins and drug-related issues. Even places of worship have not been spared. Six air conditioners were recently stolen from a church on Olympia Street.
“Winter tends to keep people indoors, and unfortunately, criminals take advantage of that,” said Victor.
Lily Pharmacy played a key role in hosting and supporting the event. Pharmacist Erwee Schroeder emphasised the importance of community collaboration.

“As a community pharmacy, we’re always happy to help,” said Schroeder. “Not everyone has the means to travel to donate blood, so we bring the opportunity to them. It’s also a great platform for local stakeholders to engage with the community and showcase their services,” said Schroeder.

“We’re committed to a better Primrose. Whether it’s community outreach or local safety initiatives, we’re here to assist wherever we can.
“We’re also part of the Better Primrose, making sure the neighbourhood is looked after,” said Schroeder.

The CPF continues to rely on community involvement and financial support to carry out its work. Victor reiterated the importance of vigilance, community solidarity, and ongoing support for local safety efforts.
